Rossi Ranch Hand as a Trunk Gun?

I guess that it was back at the 2010 Shot Show that Rossi announced that it would be producing a Mare’s Leg (later re-named the Ranch Hand) pistol, chambered in .357, .44, or .45LC. I thought it was a pretty interesting little novelty gun, and began pondering the use of it as a trunk gun, mainly because of its size.

But then I started thinking… Why? To me, a trunk gun is something that you go to should the need ever arise for a larger caliber, or more capacity. The Ranch Hand doesn’t fit either of those categories. I usually carry a .357, so I’d probably opt for that same caliber in the trunk. No gain there, except for the bullet coming from a longer barrel. My SP101 carries 5 rounds, and the Ranch Hand has 6 shots. Not a real boon in the capacity department, either.

I also wonder if you might run into some issues with the local police, should you be stopped. I’m not convinced that your average officer – who, is probably not familiar with many types of weapons – wouldn’t take one look at it and immediately come to the conclusion that you are in posession of a sawed-off lever action rifle. You’d be exonerated, eventually, but probably not until you’ve got to meet the SWAT team, local group of ATF agents, and (worst of all) a lawyer.

It’s a good looking little gun, and I’m sure that it would be a lot of fun to shoot. I’m sure that it will have a niche market, just like the Taurus Judge. I’m just having a difficult time figuring out if I’m in that niche group.

New Twitter Tool

I’ve installed the latest version of Twitter Tools. Let’s see if that fixes the problem.

Funny Money

With all the practice that our government has had printing money to “stimulate” and “support” the economy, they’d have it down to an art.

Uh… No. Flawed New $100 Bill, $110 Billion Fed Headache.

More than 1.1 billion new $100 bills have been put into quarantine while officials search for a solution to a printing problem that has rendered some of the bills unusable, an official familiar with the situation said Monday.

Any way we can just destroy that currency and forget about / repeal all the crazy spending that Congress has approved in the last few years?

21 Degrees Outside

This would be a good day to be in the woods. Alas, I am off to work.

That is all. Just wanted to share my misery with you.

This cartoon summarizes, to me, exactly what the Tea Party symbolizes. I tried to express it before the election. Be you republican, democrat, libertarian, or even green: You work for the people. If you don’t listen to them, prepare to get snake-bit.

Employers can learn, too.

Via Robb Allen, we learn about Dutch Bros. coffee. A company who, like many others, has rules about employees carrying firearms while they’re on the clock.

However, one of their employees thought his life to be more valuable than a paycheck. This barista was confronted by a choir-boy one night, and had to defend himself. The predator did not survive, and none of his prey was injured. This story is good in and of itself, but does not stop there.

One of the founders of Dutch Bros., Travis Boersma, chose not to terminate the barista for a violation of company policy. Instead, he announced that they (Dutch Bros.) are going to “reexamine” the policy in question. In his words, “We want to make sure (that policy) is in the best interest of our employees.”

Many companies have similar policies today. Even in the usually gun-friendly state of Alabama. My employer has one, and it chafes me to no end. Our legislature had a bill last year that would have prevented companies from enforcing laws that keep their employees unarmed on company property, including parking lots. However, an argument about “Gun Rights” vs. “Property Rights” arose. Throw in a special interest group that threw its support behind the bill, but only if it did not have to comply, and you have one dead bill. Here’s hoping that our newly elected house will take up this matter again, and that my co-workers can walk out of our dark building at 9pm with more than a sharp pencil to defend themselves.

I don’t know much about Dutch Bros. coffee. Outside of this incident, they could be the worst sweatshop in the world, who makes coffee filters out of baby seal hides, or grows coffee in the carcasses of beluga whales. But to see a leader of a company say “You know, maybe we’re wrong about something, and need to change things” is a true mark of leadership, to me. This could be a company to watch.

Guns Go Boom

Unfortunately… Not the right kind of boom.

I have a lot of reloading equipment that was given to me, about 2 years ago. Since that time, I’ve accumulated enough powder, primers, brass, and bullets to reload about 3000 9mm catridges alone. I’ve been reading very studiously about the entire process, and am just about comfortable enough to try my first batch of handloads. But then I see a post like this, and I want to curl up in a fetal position when I think about trying to do it.

Look, I know that there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of reloaders out there. And soon, I too will be one of them. But there’s definitely going to be a major pucker-factor when I squeeze the trigger on my first handload. In other words:
